The Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation aims to improve the physical and mental health of the people of Scotland, in particular in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

BOOK BOARDMAKER SOFTWARE

Use of the software is free and the usual library charges for printing and laminating apply. A small resource kit with examples of visual schedules and other resources is also available for use. The software is now available to use in Dunbar, Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent libraries and those wishing to use it should simply call the library to book. Community groups and charitable organisations may also wish to make use of the software and we would be delighted to explore ways in which we can help with this.

Symbols can be used to create visual schedules or reminders, to create instruction sheets or social stories, or to support PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). They can be used with children and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders people with English as an additional language and anyone with a disability or impairment that affects communication or memory.

Symbols can be used with anyone who may need additional support with communication. Launches took place this week in Dunbar, Haddington Musselburgh and Tranent with the NHS Speech and Language Therapy team demonstrating the software to members of library staff and the public. Thanks to funding made available from the Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation, access to Boardmaker Picture Communication Software has now been provided at four libraries across East Lothian.
